SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB 2 P3100 DETAILED REVIEW
Since the launch of the iPad, we have seen a whole series of tablets that tried to challenge the great Apple and, frankly, failed miserably. With the release of Google’s Honeycomb operating system, Android-based tablets have shown some potential, and with the release of Android 4.0 ICS, Android-based tablets finally make sense.
We have also started to put on sale inexpensive tablets consisting of a decent housing material and an attractive appearance.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is budget-friendly, which means it offers specs and a build that goes beyond budget devices and is aimed at an audience that doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on an iPad.
But will this device be able to take a decent place in the tablet market or will it be better to aim for the iPad?
Design and construction
Take a look at the device and you will see that it has the design of a normal 7-inch tablet. To the touch, it’s much better than any budget tablet we’ve seen, but it doesn’t look like the classic iPad. The back of the Galaxy Tab 2 is covered with a beautiful gray plastic coating. This gives the device a stylish look and makes it resistant to dust and fingerprints. On the front of the device there is a bright 7-inch screen and a fingerprint magnet.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is really thin: it is 10.5 mm thick and weighs 344 grams. It is very comfortable in your hands. Given its size, the device is very convenient for working in landscape and portrait mode.
The device is available in three internal memory options: 8 GB / 16 GB / 32 GB. The test device we received has 16 GB of internal memory. The device’s memory can be expanded to 32 GB with a microSD card. The microSD card slot and the SIM card slot are located on the left of the device. The SIM and microSD card slots are located under a folding cover that allows easy access and security to the cards.
On the right side of the device are the volume control and the on/off/sleep/activation keys. At the bottom of the device there is a patented dock connector that looks a lot like the iPhone/iPad dock connector. On the top of the device there is a headphone jack. On the back there is a 3.15-megapixel Snapper camera without Flash, while on the front of the device there is a VGA camera for video calls.
At the bottom of the tablet, to the right and left of the dock connector, there are two speakers.
The disadvantage of connectivity is that Samsung followed Apple’s path by installing a patented dock connector. That’s not bad, but we’ve seen budget tablets from Zync and iPhones offering HDMI output out of the box.
Features and specifications
From the moment the device is turned on, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 runs on the Google Android 4.0 ICS platform with the Samsung TouchWiz interface. With TouchWiz, Samsung offers a number of pre-installed applications such as PolarisOffice, Samsung Apps, eBuddy XMS, TuneIn Radio, Chat On and more. The Samsung all Share app is pre-installed on the device. The app allows you to share multimedia content with your Galaxy Tab and a DLNA-enabled TV.
At the bottom of the screen, on the left, there are touch buttons for return, Home page, task manager to easily delete apps and free up memory, and a stylish button for creating screenshots.
