Interchangeable cables, minimalist style, excellent sound and unsurpassed comfort make the u-Jays a worthy purchase for those who are looking for high-quality in-ear headphones.
A DETAILED LOOK AT THE U-JAYS
The u-JAYS are a pair of in-ear headphones artistically made by a little-known Swedish company called JAYS. Over the years, they have made several headphones that follow a similar naming convention: the s-JAYS in 2009, the c-JAYS in 2008, etc. Although I have not tried any of their other products, the U-JAYS were a happy discovery. They are designed to be simple, aesthetic, high-quality, durable and, most importantly, extremely comfortable. While the headphones reach the most desirable points on this list, the comfort was the most surprising for me.
But before we start talking about convenience, you should probably make one of these full disclosure statements. Here it is: I don’t like in-ear headphones. No matter which in-ear headphones I’ve used over the years, be it Bowers & Wilkins P3, Creative Aurvana’s flagship, JBL’s bass line, Harman Kardon’s CL, etc., I’ve never liked any of them when it comes to the comfort department. In fact, the HK CL was by far the only one I could tolerate for a longer period of time.
But the U-Jays are something else. The “Memory foam pads” are really comfortable. Even more surprising is that the usual sweating or warming of the ears, which I detest, did not occur on this copy of headphones, despite the glossy seal. Passive isolation is excellent, which means that the surrounding noise is significantly reduced, and at the same time what you hear does not escape. Unnecessarily tell your colleagues that you are listening to Major Lazer’s Lean On or some of his other guilty pleasures, aren’t you?
The other materials used in the headphones are also of the highest quality. The headband is covered with this velvety material, which is pleasant to the touch when the helmet rests on the head. The clamping pressure was perfect for the size of my rather small head, but some of the other guys in the office with bigger melons didn’t find the resistance as minimal as I did. That is, it is far from a vice. I would say that’s right and very much agree.
What about the sound quality and performance? When listening for the first time, you may feel that the sound signature is a little warm, but you quickly realize that the slight blow in the lower part, although it is certainly present, is not very pronounced. This makes the headphones exceptionally well equipped for handling voices. The Stereo Love sounded brilliant even if it was passed through a regular smartphone, which is great, since the headset has a low impedance, and its cables with its three-button online remote control are designed specifically for iOS or Android.
Back to the performance, India’s voice was Arió, while my guitar sounded Rigid (cover) well structured. But when our test tracks went through some genres to finally land on some of our worn out test tracks like Ozzy Osbourne’s No More Tears and Dream Theater’s Pull Me Under, I noticed some flaws. There was nothing wrong with the playback itself, the bass was there, and the headphones produced excellent treble, but some things were a little inappropriate, because there was no better word.

These pieces just didn’t sound the way they usually do. Some pieces felt kind of balanced. Or the drums sounded flat like selkies between me and the buried. The stereo separation was great, but sometimes you had the feeling that the sound was too direct.
