DETAILED ANALYSIS OF HUAWEI MATE 20 PRO 128 GB
Huawei Mate 20 Pro was a full-fledged device for the time when it was in our laboratory. After using the device for the first time at its launch in London, several things immediately became apparent; it’s an over-developed smartphone, and it’s a great thing. Huawei Mate 20 Pro is equipped with a 7nm Kirin 980 chipset with 6GB of DDR4 RAM, but SoC is not the only thing it has on its own. A new configuration that can be used to replace Leica’s proprietary triple camera, a battery with a new massive height, fast powered and a wireless power supply; These are just some of the things that make the Huawei Mate 20 Pro a truly profitable smartphone. But is all the glitter really golden? Does everything work as advertised on the Mate 20 Pro? We’ve figured it out.
in the box
Each Huawei Mate 20 Pro device comes with a variety of standard accessories in a box. There are a pair of USB-C wired headphones, a transparent TPU cover, documents and a SIM card extraction tool. Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the company’s first phone to support the new 40W supercharged power, and fortunately, the company is introducing a new charger ready-made. The Huawei P20 Pro, which we tested a few months ago, supported a fast 22W current supply, but the phone came with a regular charger, not a super charger. Fortunately, this era is changing.

CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN
The construction and design of the Mate 20 Pro is incredibly high quality. We got the emerald version of the Huawei phone, which, unlike Twilight, has a subtle texture on the back. At first glance, the design seems to be an inspiration for the Samsung Galaxy S9, but it’s not something to remember compared to the Mate 20 Pro. The front has a curved display similar to Samsung’s flagship design, with extremely narrow edges. Probably the most striking feature of the cover (besides the colors) The Mate 20 Pro is a camera. The black square, which houses three lenses and a flash drive, has all four functions organized in a 2×2 grid, which Huawei calls a matrix design. In any matter, just as the P20 Pro camera was its unique identifier, the Mate 20 Pro camera continues the tradition.
The Huawei Mate 20 Pro also has IP68 protection and is protected from the front by an unspecified version of Corning Gorilla Glass. In any matter, we do not recommend dropping the glass smartphone. If you turn the phone upside down, you will notice that there is a SIM card tray and a USB-C port at the bottom. There are no speaker grilles here, as the speaker is built into the power connector. It looks pretty nice from a design point of view, but is functionally limited. When the phone is connected to receive power, the sound changes. It doesn’t seem muted, but if you unplug and reconnect the charger while watching the video, you will notice a change in the sound.
When you think about the design and construction of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, it really stands out for its stylish premium design. Although the front may have similarities to the Samsung Galaxy S9, if you really need to draw the differences, there is no Bixby button here, so that’s fine.

The 6.39-inch 2K display is fantastic in almost every way. HDR compliance is excellent, but since Netflix does not currently classify the Mate 20 Pro as a device that supports HDR video, HDR certification does not help much. Colors and contrasts are displayed on the Mate 20 display. In our screen brightness test, the Mate 20 Pro retained a maximum brightness of 730 lux and at least two lux. This means that the Mate 20 Pro is great for outdoor and indoor use in total darkness. After using the phone as the main device for almost 3 weeks, there is nothing to complain about on the Mate 20 Pro display, except for the fact that the HDR function does not provide any special advantages at the moment. Netflix has already enabled HDR for the P20 Pro, so we hope it will be available for the Mate 20 Pro soon.
The display offers two color modes. Alive and normal. OLED displays are known for their rich appearance, and lately users have wanted it too. These users will certainly appreciate the live shot, but if you, like me, are a photographer who shoots and edits a lot on this phone, then you’d better switch to a natural environment. The display settings also ensure extremely accurate rotation of the white balance of the screen. If you do not have professional equipment calibration tools, we recommend avoiding this setting.
The last thing we should talk about is the excavation. Slicing on the screen quickly became a useless trend. However, the Mate 20 Pro has sensors that allow you to unlock your face. We’ll talk about this in more detail in the next section, but you don’t like the strange fragment on the cover, you can always turn it off in the display settings. Thanks to the OLED display, the area next to the notch turns black without fading.
If you bought the Mate 20 Pro, you won’t be disappointed with the display. Although there were several initial reports of discoloration of the edges of the Mate 20 Pro, we did not see this in the review we received. We contacted Huawei in India and asked them how they would solve the problem if it happened here. We will update this review with your response.
