DETAILED REVIEW OF HUAWEI HONOR 8C 64 GB

An honorable trip to India in 2018: The debate is still going pretty magically. After the Huawei-owned sub-brand remained in the shadow of Xiaomi and Samsung all the time, it managed to create its own niche, including through design innovations. The Honor phone is easy to recognize among many other phones with a metal cover. According to IDC’s smartphone shipments report for the second quarter of 2018, Huawei and subsequent experiments with color processing, as well as packaging of impressive equipment, managed to strengthen the brand, demonstrating a staggering 281 percent growth in 2018.

One of the reasons for the company’s growth is the desire to produce smartphones with small differences in functionality and equipment. More recently, the company announced the Honor 8X based on the Kirin 710, which is equipped with the largest display in its price segment, and now honor has quickly followed the example of the Honor 8c, which is slightly inferior to the first. The honor 8C also marks the debut of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632. Since the Snapdragon 625 now looks outdated, the Snapdragon 632 should be the perfect chipset for the affordable mid-range. Does the Honor 8C, with a new chipset under the hood and a price just below the Honor 8x, offer everything you need from a smartphone? Let’s find out.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

The Honor 8C follows the Honor 8x and other Honor phones released this year with a redesigned design. Although the Honor 8C is not as luxurious as the Honor 9N released earlier, it is more durable. He switched from glass to polycarbonate, but retained the color treatment of shades. Honor calls this the “cat’s eye” design because the Aurora Blue variant forms shapes that are visible to the cat’s eye when reflected from light. This is definitely one of the most beautiful phones in its price range, and it will compete with the Realme U1 in design.

Polycarbonate, although more durable than a glazed cover, is prone to scratches and creases. It seems that the Honor 8C has no bend and is actually quite durable, but for safety reasons it is advisable to put a lid on it. The phone also seems to be quite light, despite having a large battery installed, but it’s too big to use with one hand.

The front part is the entire screen. As with all Honor phones released this year, die also has a notch at the top, but it’s not as aggressive as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro. There is a place on each side of the notch to display notifications and icons in the status bar. The Honor 8C display has a resolution of only 720×1520 pixels. Considering the Realme U1 and even the Honor 8X, it’s clearly not intoxicating. However, the brightness levels are fortunately higher than those of the Realme U1, and therefore they are a little more legible on the outside.

On the other hand, watching movies or reading articles is not bad. However, if you want to stream from Netflix or Amazon Prime, you will be disappointed that you have not passed Widevine L1 certification, which means that you cannot stream from these services in FullHD format.

Honor has announced that the display is equipped with an eye comfort mode certified by TüV Rheinland, which means that the blue light filter is certified as an eye protection device. If you turn it on while reading something at night, you’ll sleep better in the newspaper, but since I ruined the sleep hours anyway, it didn’t make much difference other than putting a warm yellow shade on the panel.

The color temperature of the display is set to the cooler side by default, and Honor offers the ability to change the color temperature. There is also an option to hide the notch, and you need to manually select the applications for which the notch should be hidden. I especially like how OnePlus votes for the most popular app to make room for a mark or hide it completely. Given that Honor knows so much about artificial intelligence on its smartphones, auto-tuning would probably be a feature I’d like to see.
